Smile Group is a registered charity that supports new parents with their mental health in Cheshire East. We aim to create safer and welcoming spaces where they can have honest conversations. We run groups from four locations: Macclesfield, Congleton, Sandbach, and Crewe.
The role includes the following activities:
1. Helping to meet and greet parents
2. Making drinks on request
3. Helping to look after babies and toddlers and assist with craft and play activities
4. Helping to set up the room within the venues and tidy away at the end
5. Having an understanding of the difficulties new parents might be experiencing
6. Exhibiting a kind, empathetic approach
7. Being confident with babies and toddlers, and particularly happy to be with them
8. Possessing good organisational skills
9. Understanding Smile Group’s service and the support it provides
10. Being able to commit to attending a particular group on a regular basis (this could be weekly or monthly as part of a rota), with a minimum of 2 groups per month (4 hours in total)
11. Ability to make a good brew
Location: Oak Tree Family Hub, Crewe (Monday 10am-12pm), Sandbach Children's Centre (Tuesday 10am-12pm), Congleton Family Hub (Wednesday 10am-12pm), Ash Grove Family Hub, Macclesfield (Friday 10am-12pm).
The Volunteer Assistant role has a practical focus. You’ll ensure that everyone has a drink that would like one, and has the opportunity to drink it knowing their baby is safe. You’ll help our staff set up and pack away the equipment we need to make the space welcoming and comfortable. Where parents are comfortable, you might hold a baby or play with a toddler. There is a clear distinction between this role and that of the Wellbeing Practitioner and Group Facilitator, who are there to provide emotional support & signposting to people in the group.
Any information relating to Smile Group and its sessions is to be treated with confidentiality.
You will gain experience in working with new families and babies and groups. Smile offers training in safeguarding, empathetic listening, and the perinatal pathway in Cheshire East. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed in line with our policy.
The role requires an enhanced DBS check that Smile will organise.
