The Infectious Disease service in Bristol is seeking a substantive Consultant in Infectious Disease. Applicants must be accredited in Infectious Disease with an additional specialty (e.g. General Internal Medicine, Microbiology). The role is 10 PAs.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing department, based at the new Southmead Hospital. Microbiology services are delivered by Severn Infection Sciences, a collaboration between the trust and UKHSA. The laboratory is based at Southmead and provides diagnostics services for North Bristol, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Foundation Trust and the Royal United Hospital Trust, Bath.
Successful applicants will join a working within the Department of Infectious Disease (currently 6.1 WTE) working closely with an additional 8 microbiology, 3 virology and 2 mycology consultants based in Infection Sciences. We deliver care on our dedicated 38 bedded ward and consults to specialities across North Bristol NHS Trust. We have 6 lobbied isolation rooms and are the regional centre for the inpatient management of infections such as multi-drug resistant TB. We are one of the 7 nationally commissioned airborne high consequence infectious disease centres. We run outpatient services for all aspects of infection including TB and travel.

Main duties of the job
* Consultant care to patients on the designated ID ward bed-base - the ward is a combination of those with infection and general medical conditions.
* Provision of consult advice with continuing responsibility for the care of patients with infection to all departments within the Trust in liaison with consultant colleagues.
* Provision of specialist clinical advice to GPs & hospital colleagues within the region.
* Provision of in-reach and specialty advice to the Acute Medical Unit and Emergency Department with the aim of avoiding admissions and giving early senior specialist input to patient care.
* Participation in emergency planning, training and delivery in relation to potential infectious disease threats.
* Outpatient care through standard and virtual clinics (TB, general ID) and other specialist infection clinics as interests and qualifications allow (including HIV, NTM, travel).
* Participation in an anticipated 1 in 6 weekend/bank holiday on call rota delivering consult support to the acute medical unit and ward rounds on the ID ward.
* To take a flexible approach to cross-site and cross-departmental working. The role is based at Southmead Hospital but cross-site working to other local hospitals may be required in the future.
* Post-holders accredited in microbiology may have opportunity to deliver sessions within Infection Sciences as time and rotational opportunities allow.

The successful applicant will participate in a rota covering the ward, clinics and consults with rotational to the microbiology service for those with suitable experience. The exact mix of roles can have some flexibility depending on interest. There will be a 1 in 6 infectious disease on call and weekend/bank holiday ward round commitment.

Post-holders would be required to work in close partnership with our allied departments (Infection Sciences, HIV Medicine) and those with academic and educational interests are particularly welcome. Qualifications And Registration
Essential
* Specialist registrars that do not hold a CCT must be due to be awarded one within 6 months of the interview date.
* Must have CCT in Infectious diseases with either General Medicine or Microbiology and have been entered on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of the appointment.
* Maintain Full registration with the GMC.
* MRCP or equivalent.
Desirable
* FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification.
* Dip HIV med.
* MD.MSc, PhD, DTM& H.
Training And Experience
Essential
* Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent). Experience of running an ID inpatient ward.
* Training in prevention diagnosis and treatment of infective conditions.

* Experience in Infection Control/Decontamination.
* Experience in the management, organisation and delivery of OPAT services.
* Managing complex TB and HIV cases.
