We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team at the Royal Air Force (RAF), United Kingdom.
What will be your primary role?
The primary purpose of this position is to provide emergency police, fire, and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. You will maintain an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to ensure a prompt and accurate response. This includes police, firefighting, hazardous materials, wild land firefighting, technical rescue, and ambulance services. You will provide advanced emergency dispatch life support through pre-arrival instructions to callers. You will maintain maps, checklists, and charts, including automated programs, and operate and maintain telephones, automated data processing equipment, printers, recorders, facsimile equipment, and other devices installed in the dispatch center. Additionally, you will prepare and maintain reports and records relating to emergency responses.

What are the Key Skills required for this role?
1. Knowledge of and experience in communications operations, including a basic knowledge of trunked radio operations and patching radio frequencies.
2. Knowledge of and experience in basic computer operations, including word processing and retrieval and input of data.
3. Knowledge of the location and availability of vehicle fleet, types of apparatus and equipment needed for emergencies, and a basic knowledge of firefighting techniques and terminology.
4. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor during emergency situations.
5. Ability to work independently without immediate supervision.
What are the conditions of employment for this role?
You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules, and regulations. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. This position may be coded as mission essential. You will complete a 6-month probationary period. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The hours of work will be on an as rostered schedule covering 336 hours over eight weeks, which may be modified due to mission needs. You may be required to work on an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including weekends and holidays) and to perform critical services regardless of weather conditions or base closure. You may be required to respond on off-duty time during a conflagration or stay over until an emergency has been terminated or until properly relieved by a qualified dispatcher. You must maintain good working relationships with on and off-base agencies and maintain a consistently courteous attitude at all times, keeping calm during emergencies. You must participate in exercises by relaying accurate information and following appropriate checklists. You must be resourceful and alert to adequately perform duties and participate in recurrent proficiency training, as directed. A pre-employment physical will be required. You must maintain International Fire Service Accreditation Congress Certification as a Telecommunicator, Level II as well as HAZMAT Awareness within one year of employment.
