Are you an experienced application developer looking for your next role? The RSPB is looking for a principal conservation applications developer to drive the ongoing delivery of our conservation systems and our adoption of new technologies.
What's the role about?
As the principal developer for the Conservation Data Management Unit you will set the direction for our use of technology to support the RSPBs conservation work.
You will lead the development of our Merlin platform to provide customised GIS and data capture capabilities, and work with our GIS specialists to seamlessly integrate our ESRI toolset.
Youll act as our chief point of contact with our Digital Technology department, ensuring that our solutions dovetail with the RSPBs broader technology strategy, and providing input to the ongoing development of that strategy.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
* A track record of using of C#/JavaScript/HTML/CSS to deliver intuitive, user-friendly applications [front and back-end skills]
* Experience of the Angular Javascript framework
* Extensive experience of working with GIS/mapping systems
* Full understanding of the software development life cycle and working with Agile methodologies such as SCRUM
* Extensive experience of database design and development using SQL Server
* Experience of CI/CD management using Azure Dev Ops
* A track record of successful system design, and the ability to document and implement solutions
* The ability to communicate effectively with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders, as well as proven mentorship and leadership skills
* A desire to develop a deep understanding of the RSPBs conservation work, and the current and future role of technology in delivering this.
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
* Knowledge of the ESRI toolset
* Knowledge/experience of conservation work and systems
* A knowledge of Python, with experience of ESRI's ArcPy package being particularly desirable
