JOB OVERVIEW
The Breast Imaging Department at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust has an opening for an Trainee Assistant Practitioner to join its multi-professional team. Assistant Practitioners in Mammography undertake high quality mammograms under the supervision of a qualified senior radiographer to screen for early stage breast cancer. In house practical learning takes place in the Mammography departments of The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shrewsbury and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford as well as on mobile units at various locations throughout rural Shropshire. You will be expected to undertake both level 4 and 5 training via an accredited institute. Due to the sensitive nature of this post, only female applicants can be considered. This is in line with the defined exceptions in the Equality Act 2010, known as Genuine Occupational Requirements (GOQ). MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB
* To work within the scope of practice of a Level 4/5 Assistant Practitioner.
* To carry out mammography examinations to the required standard.
* To work under the supervision (direct or indirect) of a senior
radiographer. * To be responsible for radiation protection of patients/carers/others during mammography procedures. * You must be committed to providing a high-quality mammography service and be capable of working with accuracy and speed to NHS Breast Screening Programme standards and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills. With a flexible approach to work you will be required to participate in the 8 week rolling rota which requires long day working to meet the demands of the expanding screening population and symptomatic workload. * Can be any age post full-time education 16+,
* Cannot already be on an Apprenticeship or any Government funded
training, * Cannot have a qualification at the same or higher level in the same vocational area. There needs to be significant new learning. * Has been a UK resident for 3 or more years.
