Job Title: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher
Location: Wakefield and surrounding areas
About the Role:
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of students with special educational needs? We’re looking for a dedicated SEN Teacher to join our team in Wakefield, helping students reach their full potential through tailored education plans. You’ll work closely with parents, other teachers, and specialists, ensuring each child receives the support they need to thrive both academically and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assessment and Planning:
* Conduct assessments to identify the needs of each student.
* Develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that are personalized to their abilities.
* Set achievable goals while challenging students to grow.
* Regularly monitor and track student progress.
2. Teaching and Learning:
* Deliver engaging lessons tailored to each student’s IEP.
* Adapt teaching methods and resources to meet individual needs.
* Create a supportive, inclusive environment that encourages learning.
* Use a mix of teaching strategies to maintain engagement and understanding.
3. Collaboration:
* Work closely with parents, carers, and professionals like speech therapists and psychologists.
* Share strategies and collaborate with other teachers and support staff.
* Attend regular meetings with the SENCO and other key staff members.
4. Behaviour and Pastoral Support:
* Implement behaviour management strategies that support emotional and social development.
* Provide academic and personal guidance to students.
* Cultivate a nurturing, positive learning space where students feel safe and supported.
5. Administration:
* Keep accurate records of student progress and development.
* Prepare regular reports for parents, carers, and relevant authorities.
* Ensure full compliance with educational and legal regulations.
What We’re Looking For:
Education and Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
* SEN qualifications (e.g., SENCO) are a plus!
Experience:
* Hands-on experience working with children with special educational needs.
* Proven ability to develop and implement IEPs effectively.
Skills:
* A strong understanding of SEN conditions such as autism, dyslexia, and ADHD.
* Great communication and people skills, with the ability to engage students, parents, and colleagues.
* Patience, empathy, and a genuine dedication to supporting student well-being.
* Organisational skills to balance planning, teaching, and administration.
