This is an excellent and exciting opportunity for a motivated, flexible and dynamic nurse to work within the Cardiac catheter laboratories/ Screening Room team as a Sister/Charge Nurse. The Cardiac Catheter Labs are a unit comprised of six radio diagnostic rooms, one screening room and three recovery areas. Within this area, all aspects of cardiology and respiratory diagnostic and interventional procedures are undertaken for paediatric and adult patients. This includes percutaneous coronary intervention, pacemaker/defibrillator implantation and arrhythmia procedures- using nurse-led conscious sedation, transplant assessment and bronchoscopy. We are a dynamic and exciting department with a vast array of learning and development opportunities.

Main duties of the job
The purpose of this role is as a support to the Senior Sister, acting as a deputy in their absence, taking charge and coordinating the department ensuring safe staffing and efficiency. They are there to provide effective support and leadership to both staff and patients within the Department and act as a role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff and students. It is their role to ensure systems are in place to provide the continuity of safe effective care for patients at all times and being an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team is essential.
Shortlisted candidates will possess current and relevant practice skills, including intravenous drug administration, scrubbing techniques and mentorship (or working towards achieving). Nursing team development is an important aspect of this role and the successful candidate will require effective team management and team development skills.
Job responsibilities
* To support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse / Senior ODP, acting as a deputy when the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse / Senior ODP is absent.
* Provide effective support and leadership to staff, patients and carers within the Theatre or Department.
* Act as role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff and students.
* Ensure systems are in place to provide the continuity of safe effective care for patients at all times.
* Effective member of the multi-disciplinary team.
* May be required to participate in an On-call rota as required.

Qualifications & Education
Essential
* Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch) / Operating Department Practitioner
* Current NMC / HCPC registration
* Diploma in a health-related subject, prepared to take degree level study
* Specialist qualification if relevant to role or previous experience
* Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council standards for student supervision and assessment (formally Mentorship)
Desirable
* Degree in health-related subject
* Relevant specialist qualification

* Previous post-registration experience which must be relevant and recent
* Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development
