MAPA Certificate - Managing Agression and Potential Agression Position Overview: As a Support Worker with a MAPA (Management of Actual or Potential Aggression) certification, you will provide high-quality care and support to individuals with complex needs, mental health challenges, or behavioral difficulties. Your role involves promoting independence, ensuring safety, and delivering compassionate care while utilizing MAPA techniques to effectively manage challenging situations. Key Responsibilities: Care and Support: Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks. Promote independence by encouraging individuals to engage in activities and make decisions about their lives. Build positive relationships and provide emotional support to individuals. MAPA Techniques: Utilize MAPA strategies to safely manage challenging behaviors while minimizing risks to individuals and staff. Recognize and de-escalate potential aggressive or stressful situations using non-restrictive techniques. Follow all guidelines to ensure the safety and dignity of individuals. Health and Well-being: Monitor and record physical and emotional well-being, reporting any concerns to the appropriate authorities. Support individuals in managing medications and attending healthcare appointments. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including healthcare professionals, social workers, and families. Maintain accurate and detailed records of care and incidents. Communicate effectively with individuals, families, and colleagues to ensure a person-centered approach. Training and Compliance: Stay updated with MAPA techniques and attend regular training sessions. Adhere to all safeguarding, health and safety, and organizational policies. Ensure compliance with care plans and risk assessments. Qualifications and Skills: MAPA (Management of Actual or Potential Aggression) certification. Previous experience in a support worker role, ideally within a similar setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Compassionate, patient, and resilient with the ability to remain calm under pressure. Knowledge of safeguarding and person-centered care principles. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. Preferred: SVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care. First Aid and CPR certification. A valid driver's license (if applicable).
