We are keen to recruit an inclusive, compassionate and collaborative Medical Director. You will join a committed and motivated senior leadership team led by the Care Group Director. Joined by your clinical colleagues (Director of Psychological Professions and Nurse Director) you will create a positive safety culture along with a robust quality governance framework and actively lead and manage our medical workforce across the care group. We have a strong research culture which we would want senior colleagues to continue to foster.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Leadership & Management: Establish yourself as a supportive and responsive managerial leader for the medical staff in the Care Group, to maintain high quality medical standards.
2. Building Pathways and Place Relationships: Within and across Care Groups; with partners such as the local authority and Primary Care and within your Place Communities.
3. Delivering Safe and Therapeutic Care: Ensure clinical standards are maintained; support the clinical governance within the Care group and it remains effective; conduct complex investigations and policy development.
4. Recruitment and Retention: Lead on recruitment and retention in relation to medical colleagues within the Care Group.
5. Education and Research: Work with The Director of Medical Education and The Director of Undergraduate Medical Education to ensure that all trainees and medical students placed with the trust have a positive and rewarding experience during their time in the Care Group.
6. Clinical Effectiveness & Service Improvement: Foster and enhance culture of learning across the care group and support delivery in relation to clinical effectiveness process and service improvement.
7. Patient Safety and Patient Experience: Work with the SLT Clinical Directors to actively promote and role model a healthy patient safety culture.

This role does not require you to have a specific clinical background, as a leadership and management post it allows those skills to be transferable regardless of your clinical experience. The Medical Director has 4 PAs with it; but within the Care Group and wider organisation we have a range of clinical opportunities for the clinical PAs.
Person Specification:
Education / Qualifications
Essential:
* MB ChB or equivalent
* Current GMC Registration with a license to practise
Desirable:
* Post graduate qualification in leadership and management
* GMC registration without any restrictions
* s12 approval and Approved Clinician status WRT the Mental Health Act (1983)
Experience
Essential:
* Suitably qualified medical practitioner
* Experience of developing and delivering presentations and/or training to large groups
* Broad and positive clinical experience
Desirable:
* Management/leadership experience in the NHS
* Experience of people management including doctors
* Detailed knowledge of the current issues within the NHS
* Experience of leading on research projects and audit
* Experience of effective partnership working with a range of agencies and stakeholders
Knowledge
Essential:
* Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983) and the Mental Capacity Act (2005)
* Understanding of clinical risk management and the ability to put this into practice as expert advisor within risk management
* An understanding of the regulatory framework of the GMC
Desirable:
* Working knowledge and experience in the use of the quality improvement tool in practice
* An understanding of medical revalidation and appraisal processes
* An understanding of financial management systems and budgets within the NHS
* An understanding of regional and national structures and regulators (ICBs, CQC, NHS England, NHS Providers)

* Will be required to travel on a regular basis across the trust wide footprint and to organisations external to the trust

* Access to transport and the ability to travel within the required geographical area
