Job Title: General Assistant Cleaning
Responsible to: Domestic Supervisor
Job Summary:
* Help each resident enjoy the highest possible quality of life, surrounded by love, friendship and support within a Christian environment.
* Help to deliver excellent cleaning and laundry services.
Main Relationships Internal:
Care, cleaning and catering staff.
Main Relationships External:
Relatives and friends of residents.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cleaning:
1. Ensure all designated areas are thoroughly cleaned.
2. Ensure all equipment is used and stored as necessary.
3. Ensure regular checks of equipment and report any deficiencies.
4. Check equipment is safe and working.
5. Carry out extra spring/deep cleaning tasks as required.
2. Laundry:
1. Assist in linen and clothing cleaning systems.
2. Use on-site laundry and ironing equipment for internal laundry.
3. Implement infection control procedures.
3. Involving Residents in Domestic Activities:
1. Explore with Care Staff the potential to involve residents in Domestic activities and deliver suitable activities in response to this.
2. Engage with residents to participate in domestic activities.
4. General:
1. Comply with health and safety regulations and fire policy.
2. Report hazards to management.
3. Participate in staff meetings.
4. Participate in Supervision and Appraisal.
5. Share in a flexible rota.
6. Develop your knowledge and practice.
7. Ensure that clothing, including footwear and headgear and personal hygiene is of the highest standard at all times.
8. Work positively as a member of the team ensuring effective and harmonious relationships are maintained with all members of staff.
9. Undertake other duties as deemed necessary to ensure the smooth running of operations and fulfil The Salvation Army’s mission.
10. If needed and appropriately trained, fulfil the responsibilities as set out in the Catering Assistant Job Description.
Job Challenges:
* Maintaining a high level of service even when a resident may not be able to express themselves and may be resistant to care practices.
* Remaining respectful when residents express distress reactions.
* Attempting to maintain a good level of service when there are occasional staff shortages.
* Maintain good communication with staff and residents from different cultures.
