Maintenance Manager - Food Manufacturing
Objective:
The objective of the Maintenance Manager is to ensure the effective functioning and maintenance of all equipment, machinery, and facilities within a food manufacturing organization. This role is responsible for managing a team of maintenance technicians, implementing preventative maintenance plans, coordinating repairs, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. The Maintenance Manager plays a crucial role in minimising downtime, reducing costs, and maintaining high-quality standards in the production process.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversee Maintenance Operations:
1. Develop and implement maintenance strategies specific to food manufacturing facilities.
2. Manage and lead the maintenance team, including assigning tasks, providing training, and conducting performance evaluations.
3. Plan and schedule maintenance activities, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
4. Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and adhere to industry standards.
2. Implement Preventative Maintenance:
1. Develop and manage a preventative maintenance program to prevent breakdowns and extend equipment lifespan.
2. Monitor and analyse maintenance data to identify trends and proactively address recurring issues.
3. Develop maintenance procedures, checklists, and schedules according to equipment specifications and regulatory requirements.
4. Coordinate with production and quality departments to minimize equipment-related quality issues.
3. Coordinate Repairs and Troubleshooting:
1. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies, prioritising and delegating tasks effectively.
2. Coordinate and oversee repairs and troubleshooting activities, ensuring timely resolution.
3. Maintain a well-organised inventory of spare parts and establish vendor relationships for efficient procurement.
4. Ensure Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
1. Monitor and enforce compliance with food safety regulations, including HACCP, GMP, and FSMA.
2. Implement and maintain proper sanitation and cleaning procedures for equipment and facilities.
3. Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and resolve safety and quality-related issues.
4. Collaborate with quality assurance and operations teams to implement corrective actions.
5. Budget Management:
1. Develop and manage the maintenance department's budget.
2. Monitor expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and optimize resource allocation.
3. Evaluate and recommend the purchase of new equipment or upgrades to existing machinery.
Requirements:
1. Proven work experience as a Maintenance Manager in food manufacturing, preferably within a similar industry.
2. Excellent knowledge of food processing equipment, machinery, and facility maintenance.
3. Strong understanding of food safety regulations and quality standards.
4. Demonstrated leadership skills, able to effectively manage and motivate a maintenance team.
5. Problem-solving mindset and ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
6. Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
7. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
8. Proficiency in using computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software.
