Provide specialised and specific diagnostic instructions over the telephone to users of the service, providing explanation of issues where necessary. To act as primary point of contact for Point of Care when working alone. Liaise with other members of staff within the department on a routine basis to ensure safe and efficient daily operation. To be able to plan your own work and that of the department and prioritise urgent issues. To co-ordinate the work in conjunction with other specialist departments. Must have good hand eye co-ordination when handling potentially infectious material and when using laboratory/POCT equipment. To prepare specimens for POCT diagnostic testing. To supervise and ensure continuity of a wide range of POCT diagnostic tests. To ensure patient confidentiality Must be able to do maintenance and basic repairs of the automated analysers/POCT devices. Implements changes to practice within POCT alongside the Service Manager. Provide advice and guidance to other staff members working in that area. Helps formulate SOPs with the Service Manager/Clinical Lead. To maintain adequate levels of POCT/Laboratory kits and reagents in the department. To assist with the training of new Associate Practitioners and Biomedical Science students. Will be able to act independently within occupational guidelines and make the judgment when it is necessary to refer to their manager. Work as part of a team within own discipline as well as both within the wider Pathology Laboratories and Trust.
