Position Summary
The Charles Stewart Mott Department of Public Health at Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine is seeking a coordinator to support the newly appointed associate chairs for community-partnered departmental administration (Dr. Kent Key) and research (Dr. Steve Ondersma). This collective work supports MSU's commitment to the Flint community by developing an infrastructure for shared governance and the continued expansion of departmental research. We are looking for a full-time office coordinator to assist with administrative tasks in support of these efforts. This includes coordinating meetings and special events with community partners, local residents, research faculty, staff and others. Additional responsibilities include organizing trainings, coordinating IRB submissions, conducting literature reviews, synthesizing information to generate summaries and reports, and website management. This position is located in Flint, Michigan and requires some in-person activities.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical school or related field; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in customer service or in performing tasks related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Experience working with community organizations, community engaged research, and/or community-based participatory research approaches. Previous experience coordinating meetings and events, conducting literature reviews, managing IRB submissions, creating training materials, and developing visual content, infographics, multimedia resources, and website maintenance.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired after two or three years in college including courses associated with public health, psychology, health or related fields.
Well-organized, and highly detailed oriented. Effective oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, spreadsheets, scheduling, Internet browsers/web research, etc.), and ability to learn new skills.
Proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of community partners and colleagues across race, color, gender, national origin, gender identity, religion, age, height, weight, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, veteran status, socioeconomic class, and other differences.
Self-starter who can effectively work both independently and in a team environment with the ability to serve in both leadership and contributor roles.
