We are working with a leading provider of industrial equipment manufacturing, offering a wide range of products in Science, Engineering, and Technology. Based in West Yorkshire, with an advanced factory and skilled team to ensure durable equipment is made in the UK.
We are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer who can design products and solutions suitable for educational institutions, understand market trends and the latest developments in technology, have some understanding of the subject matter, and possess a capability for technical writing as required.
Responsibilities:
1. Use of Solidworks
2. Ability to produce and maintain BOMs
3. Ability to generate costing estimates
4. Ability to source new components and obtain quotes and pricing for both standard components and bespoke items
5. Knowledge of basic machining, sheet metal, and bending processes
6. Knowledge and appropriate selection of common engineering metal alloys such as steels, aluminium, etc., plus common engineering plastics such as acrylic and ABS
7. Knowledge and appropriate selection of finishes for aesthetic and corrosion resistance including painting/powder coating, plating, anodising, etc.
8. Knowledge of common mechanical components such as bearings, couplings, gears, timing pulleys, etc., and their appropriate limits and fits
9. Knowledge and appreciation of measuring techniques for mechanical parameters such as force, torque, strain, pressure, flow rate, displacement, etc.
10. Good theoretical engineering background; ability to do design calculations and understand the theories being taught with the equipment.
11. Be able to work with electrical and electronic engineers in the development of new products, with awareness of mounting of PCBs and electrical components such as switches, panel connectors, circuit breakers, etc.
12. Be able to write technical documentation for both internal use and as input into customer-facing documents such as product manuals and user information.
13. Ability to perform product demonstrations both internally and externally to customers and end users.
14. Assist in the production of technical briefs for new products.
Desirable:
1. Knowledge of running Solidworks PDM to control CAD models and drawing issues and revisions, or alternatively, someone with knowledge about how to handle data files in CAD systems.
