Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
* Daily preparation of accounts to review stage, with assistance from your mentor
* One on one training with your mentor with each stage of an accounts job
* Use of the cloud software, Xero in the preparation of accounts and VAT jobs
* Exposure to VAT returns and bookkeeping processes to see the process through to the accounts completion stage
* Responsible for your own workload, ensuring you complete each job by the agreed timescale
* Working as a team to ensure the work is delivered to clients in a timely manner

Course contents
* Record transactional data.
* Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
* Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
* Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
* Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
* Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
* Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Your training plan
Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Hereford (HR4 9SX):
You will receive face-to-face training one day per week as per your assigned training plan.
Additional training for functional skills in English and Maths will be undertaken if needed.
You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment to gain your level 2 accountancy qualification.
There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme.
