International Strategy and Trade Relations (ISTR) sits within the Departments Economic Security and Trade Relations Group. It provides a centre for country, regional, global and trade policy expertise and an influential voice across government. ISTR supports the delivery of DBT's international priorities bilaterally to promote economic growth and maximise opportunities for UK businesses to export and invest.
The key roles of the Directorate include leading on bilateral trade and investment strategies including trade dialogues; managing and leading the Government's market access programme which contributes £billions to UK economic growth through opening opportunities to businesses across overseas markets; leading on the implementation of free trade agreements; and the interpretation of geostrategic and regional trends and translating these into the Department’s overall and country-based approach.
This is an important and exciting role central to the Directorate and Departments international work – supporting the overall co-ordination of international bilateral strategies and implementation of Free Trade Agreements in key markets alongside leading on the co-ordination, shaping and delivery of a multi-billion market access programme – including the design and delivery of a multi-million market access fund.
Key responsibilities:
* Leading and managing a team of circa 30 people across DBT locations;
* Overall global strategy for engagement on key policy areas across DBT;
* Driving delivery and DBT input into DBT priority global or intra-regional Cross-Whitehall initiatives;
* Connectivity across DBT and international trade policy, market access and implementation specifically;
* Implementation and market access policy and strategy – including delivery of the Market access fund and driving new initiatives and ways of working across Directorate;
* Shaping the strategy and future direction of Market access work;
* Overall Directorate and Cross-Whitehall Governance
