We are seeking an Assistant Buyer to join our fantastic Procurement team on a full time, permanent basis. Based at our Petersfield head office, you will be working with us at SMI - we are a leading supplier to Britain's workforce; delivering solutions such as workwear, PPE, cleaning and hygiene supplies, and workforce supplies. What will I be doing? As an Assistant Buyer, you will be responsible for managing purchase orders, ensuring timely and accurate stock procurement, and maintaining up-to-date delivery schedules in NetSuite. Collaborating with suppliers to resolve delivery issues, chasing overdue orders, and address invoice discrepancies. You will support supplier performance tracking, sustainability initiatives, and competitor analysis while fostering strong interdepartmental communication to drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement. Duties include but are not limited to: Manage the Purchase Order raising throughout the day and ensure all lines are ordered same day with the relevant supplier Checking stock availability and ensuring we’re ordering the correct products to meet the businesses needs Notify relevant team members as to any delays expected on products due in and update Netsuite If the preferred supplier is out of stock, then looking to see if we can order from a 2 nd tier supplier and subsequently raise relevant PO’s with that supplier instead if suitable. Track and expedite PO deliveries when necessary Ensure all expected delivery dates (at line level) are always correct on NetSuite Run the ‘outstanding suppliers orders’ report each day for PO’s you have placed only. Check as to any overdue orders and chase up with the suppliers accordingly Flag up supplier performance issues with your line manager and track against agreed SLA’s What do I need to be successful?
