Job summary
I am Laura, a Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Nurse with the North Perinatal Mental Health Team. We support women with severe or complex mental health conditions who are planning pregnancy, pregnant or have a child under one. We provide high quality, evidence-based specialist advice, assessment, and interventions.
If you are successful in your application, you will be working with me in our North Hub which operates across Peterborough, Huntingdon, and Wisbech. Having received a large investment from NHSE to expand the service, this is an exciting time to join us.
Main duties of the job
1. You will work with mothers, their infants and families who are at risk of or experiencing severe and complex perinatal mental health conditions.
2. You will have a case load of ladies that you work with as care coordinator, linking in with the wider treatment options available within the team via our nursery nurses, occupational therapists, and psychologists.
3. As a care coordinator you would be involved in developing care plans and liaising with family members, carers and significant others to support the development and management of individuals care plans.
4. You will also be working with women, to support them to understand the nature of their mental health challenges (psycho education), helping women develop coping strategies and relapse prevention plans, linking in with wider third sector agencies.

Job responsibilities
1. To be part of the development of the Countywide Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service.
2. To work directly with women, their infants and families who are at risk of or experiencing severe and complex perinatal mental health conditions.
3. To contribute to the development and delivery of Perinatal Mental Health Training and Education to other staffing groups.
4. To participate in safeguarding adult enquiries and complete safeguarding lead training. Mentor and co-mentor student nurses.
5. To provide medication advice and information within their competency.
6. Provide supervision to junior staff.
7. To work jointly with staff from other provide specialist advice and consultation to other staff regarding the management of women experiencing severe and complex mental health conditions during the perinatal phase including guidance on management and signposting where conditions do not require input from a specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service.
8. Attend professionals meetings and other meetings to offer advice where appropriate.
9. To work as part of a team and autonomously as required.
10. To provide care coordination to women experiencing severe or complex mental health conditions.
11. To provide specialist perinatal initial assessments.
Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
1. Professional Health/Social Care qualification.
2. HCPC or NMC Professional Registration.
3. Post qualification specialist mental health training (Desirable).
4. Post registration training relevant to the service area (Desirable).
Experience
1. Experience of inter-agency working.
2. Experience of developing user and carer involvement.
3. Experience of working with patients who have mental health difficulties /diagnosis.
4. Experience in managing complex cases.
5. Experience working in a Perinatal setting (Desirable).
6. Experience of working as a care co-ordinator in a mental health setting (Desirable).
7. Experience of managing and training staff (Desirable).
Skills & Abilities
1. Able to assess people with complex mental health problems and collaboratively develop care plans and risk management plans.
2. Able to maintain comprehensive patient records concisely and accurately.
3. To be able to independently manage a caseload.
4. Able to manage conflict and change.
5. Able to manage pressure of working in an intensive environment.
6. Ability to develop and lead new initiatives within the clinical care environment (Desirable).
Knowledge & understanding
1. Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983/2007).
2. Knowledge of relevant professional Standards.
3. Working knowledge of Mental Capacity Act (2005).
4. Working knowledge and understanding of safeguarding vulnerable children and adults.
5. Knowledge of the importance of the parent infant relationship (Desirable).
