North Somerset Hockey Club was formed in 1997 from a merger between Brean & Portishead Hockey Clubs. Both Brean and Portishead achieved various levels of success with Brean playing in the national league hockey in the late 1980’s. Both clubs started to experience a reduction in playing numbers in the late 90’s, and were brought together to form North Somerset. Based in Portishead, we draw players from throughout the area including Weston-super-Mare and Bristol. The Womens section merged with Somerset Gryphons HC at the start of season 2022-23.
You will find us a friendly, welcoming, and sociable Club. In the last couple of seasons, we have obtained a superb new pitch, and pitch-side facilities, in conjunction with Gordano School in Portishead. Our good governance was recognised in 2019 with the coveted Sport England/England Hockey Clubmark award.
With 3 mens sides, 3 womens sides and a large flourishing junior section that is now providing quality players to the Club, the Mens 1s have already won West Men’s Concorde Division 2 with a near 100% record. Next season will see them in Concorde Division 1 with a target of further promotion in the medium term.
We are looking for a talented, personable and enthusiastic head coach to be the training lead for the Mens 1st team. In addition, the coach will work together with the coaches of the 2nd & 3rd team squads to ensure best practices across the Mens section of the Club. Ideally, the coach will be an EH Level 2 (or higher) looking to gain further experience in developing players.
