Job Description
NBC News Digital is seeking a Photo Editor to join our Art and Photo Department. The Photo Editor will work closely with editors, reporters, and art directors to visualize our stories and brand on and our digital platforms.
This shift is Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm GMT and based in London. This is a hybrid role, coming into the office at least three days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) a week.
Key Responsibilities
Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Research, select and edit images for inclusion in stories and social media published on and our digital platforms
2. Monitor news agency feeds to identify strong images for breaking and developing news stories
3. Edit and compose captions and headlines for photos and galleries on our digital platforms
4. Create photo essays and photo galleries
5. Commission photographers for international original assignments
6. Work with multiple stakeholders and execute assignments from editors on a wide range of topics for all NBC News platforms
7. Pitch and produce photo and art-driven stories for our websites and digital platforms
Qualifications
Skills and Experience
8. Significant experience as a photo editor at a news organization, or a comparable body of freelance photo editing work
9. Portfolio that demonstrates an eye for storytelling, concept, composition, and color
10. Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
11. Strong written communication skills
12. Experience working in a CMS
13. Ability to work on quick deadlines in a fast-paced environment
14. Must have a broad knowledge and curiosity about news, and a keen eye for spotting interesting and newsworthy visual content
15. Understanding of journalism ethics, image copyright, and digital licensing
