Job Title: Junior Timber Selector/Yard Operative
Reporting Line: Lead Timber Selector
Role: General stock/yard activities and selecting quality timber to suit customer order requirements to maximize yield and efficiency through practicing LEAN methodology, while conforming to the company’s mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
Job Description:
1. To ensure the health and safety of oneself and other staff.
2. To be a key member of the Operations team by encouraging and leading by example to create a positive work environment.
3. Receive timber deliveries; batch and consolidate customer orders; store timber stock in the correct locations and manner.
4. Stocking in processes.
5. To select the best timber to suit customer orders and EWT requirements.
6. To maintain accurate stock records by engaging disciplined stock processes.
7. To engage the practices of LEAN to create a pull in the value stream while focusing on continuous improvement.
8. To communicate to the relevant people the necessary information as required.
9. Timber kilning duties of timber from fresh sawn, to air dried to kilned dried.
10. Process waste wood from various departments.
11. Timber fired boiler duties.
12. Maintain stock bays in terms of neatness and stock count.
13. To serve customers and process customers’ orders according to their needs and lead times.
14. To build and maintain excellent customer relationships in line with our sales strategy.
15. To affect the “ease” for customers to purchase timber by meeting the customers' criteria in the most effective and efficient means.
16. To strive to yield the best margin through careful timber selection.
17. To reduce costs through effective and efficient work practices.
18. To identify SLOB stock to effect stock turnover.
19. To care for and maintain EWT facilities & equipment (MHE & Other).
Ideal Requirements:
1. Good work ethic with an eagerness to learn.
2. Effectively communicate at all levels of the organisation through instruction and reporting.
3. Awareness, implementation, engagement, and adherence to Health and Safety in the workplace.
4. Ability to work under pressure and meet customer deadlines.
5. Self-motivated and innovative.
6. Valid Driver’s license.
7. Telehandler license (not essential).
Shift & Schedule:
Mon – Fri 07:45 – 17:00 (Shift starts at 08:00)
