Salary: GBP50000 - GBP65000 per annum
THE ROLE
We are looking for a Senior Sustainability Engineer to manage, design, develop & evaluate energy-related projects or programs to reduce or improve energy costs & energy efficiency during the designing, building, or re-modelling stages of construction. Responsibilities include:
1. Lead and manage the Energy & Sustainability Engineering for all projects, ensuring project performance and profitability while demonstrating client care.
2. Manage, appoint & audit subcontractors as appropriate.
3. Coordinate dynamic thermal modelling (IESVE) analysis including Part L Assessments, Comfort Analysis (TM52/59), natural ventilation studies, and daylighting.
4. Oversee studies relating to BREEAM Credits including thermal comfort, low and zero carbon technologies, reduction of emissions, predicted operational energy, and daylighting.
5. Lead residential Part L assessments utilizing accredited SAP software as part of large-scale energy strategies.
6. Prepare Energy & Sustainability Statements for developments to complement planning submissions, coordinating contributions from various design team stakeholders.
7. Prepare high-quality reports that clearly communicate the issues involved and the conclusions.
8. Support bidding for new opportunities, contribute to marketing material, and attend interviews for projects.
9. Undertake domestic and/or non-domestic EPCs for new and existing buildings.
10. Lead change in new systems and technologies and mentor less experienced Engineers.
11. Travel to client and project locations as required to represent EDC for meetings/surveys/training.
12. Maintain and promote the good name and reputation of EDC within the industry.
13. Liaise and collaborate with other offices as appropriate.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum Degree in Building Services is required - Sustainability/Electrical/Mechanical/Civil-Structural Engineering with further qualifications in Energy/Sustainability.
- A good understanding of mechanical and electrical services systems and design engineering.
- Minimum three years’ experience as a Sustainability Engineer, ideally in a consultancy environment.
- 1-2 years’ experience in Thermal Modelling using IES VE with a solid understanding of MEP services and current Building Regulations including Part L and Part F.
- Desirable: Qualified Domestic/Non-Domestic EPC Assessor, experience in SAP, SBEM, IESVE, Daylight, Thermal comfort, and Heating and cooling calculations.
- Working towards Chartered status or professional membership is desirable.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Good knowledge and experience of UK Building Regulations legislation.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills.
- Knowledge of CIBSE, BS, and IS Standards.
- Excellent problem-solving and IT skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with a proven ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong sense of commercial awareness.
