At SP Energy Networks, our focus is on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. Our team is building a dynamic network to meet the changing demands for electricity and increasingly, renewable electricity – safely, securely, and sustainably in the communities we serve.
We know people are central to building a better future and we are seeking new talent to join our Strategic Projects Development Team. Our Strategic Projects Team will develop and deliver over £2bn of investment on the transmission network in the central belt of Scotland as part of our drive to achieve our NetZero targets in Scotland and across the rest of the UK over the next decade and beyond.
The Project Manager is the owner and driving force for projects from concept through to project handover into delivery units. You will be expected to provide leadership and co-ordination across internal and external stakeholder groups to ensure that projects are ready for delivery within agreed timescales.
What you’ll be doing
1. Lead on programme development and planning activities associated with major projects.
2. Effectively manage project risk and opportunities, suitably mitigating the impact of issues that may emerge while capitalising on opportunities to provide efficiencies.
3. Comply with the SPEN/SPT Integrated Management System.
4. Identify and understand the potential interactions between the various proposed projects and develop initiatives which minimise the impact on deliverability.
5. Manage interfaces with outage planning to ensure the outage programme is fully informed by the requirements of the major project’s investment programme.
6. Develop and maintain accurate capital expenditure forecasts and output projections on assigned projects.
7. Supervise the creation of robust project plans, ensuring progress against plans.
8. Manage budget and expenditure on projects prior to handover to project units.
9. Liaise with Consent and Environmental Planning teams to ensure engineering development activity is programmed to meet external constraints and that the delivery timeline is achievable.
10. Liaise with the regulation department and provide input on the impact assessment of proposed regulatory changes.
11. Ensure any regulatory changes introduced are managed to avoid negative impacts on major projects development and deliverability.
12. Communicate programme development and project status to stakeholders.
13. Work closely with colleagues in Networks, Planning and Regulation to ensure projects are coordinated and delivered in a timely manner.
14. Engage and drive process improvement initiatives in concert with colleagues and other stakeholders.
15. Lead on preparations for statutory consenting for Overhead Lines and Substations (Necessary Wayleaves and Compulsory Purchase Orders).
What you’ll bring
We are looking for individuals who have good knowledge of the transmission network along with significant experience of managing electrical infrastructure projects and knowledge of the investment approval process.
You will have well-developed customer service, negotiation, and communications skills, along with excellent organisation and time management experience. Being able to make balanced decisions, considering all relevant information, and consulting with key stakeholders is important for this role, along with the following:
1. Engineering degree qualified or equivalent experience.
2. Expert project planning and management skills.
3. Experienced in working in multi-disciplined teams at a professional level.
4. Experienced in planning activities for complex and interactive technical projects.
5. Understanding of the preparation process and requirements of Necessary Wayleaves and Compulsory Purchase Orders.
6. Experienced in working on projects with a timeframe lasting several years.
7. Experienced in large expenditure projects delivering on a timeline with commercial implications.
8. Working knowledge of procurement process requirements.
9. Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
10. Understanding of and able to implement quality assurance processes.
11. Awareness of regulatory impact on business revenues.
12. Knowledge of network and business data and network management systems.
13. Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges.
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate as a minimum:
1. Degree in relevant Engineering Discipline or equivalent experience.
2. Significant experience in a programme delivery or project planning/development environment.
