Capital Accountant Full time position 9 month fixed-term contract Liverpool, hybrid working (2 days per week on site) Salary: £46,485 - £58,596 Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is a globally recognised centre of excellence for research and teaching in tropical diseases. We are looking to hire an interim Capital Accountant to join our award-winning finance team, who will provide a high level of professional accounting and management support to the Head of Finance Operations and Director of Finance. This role will focus on robust capital management, in particular management of large, high profile building projects, plus responsibility for the expenditure budget and management of funding, including reporting to external funders. Key responsibilities include: Capital Management Work closely with the Financial Accountant in maintaining the fixed asset register and producing capital reports Lead on managing the capital reporting for key capital projects such as renovations across multiple LSTM buildings, including reporting to external funders Review the fixed asset register within the new TechnologyOne finance system and work with LSTM Financial Accountants to review system set up and controls, making improvements as necessary Provide cashflow forecasts related to capital activity Lead on management of LSTM and Group capital programme Treasury Support Provide support and oversight to the Senior Financial Accountant in production of capital cashflow forecasts and cashflow reporting to management Work with the Senior Financial Accountant to identify surplus working capital and opportunities for short, medium or longer term investment to maximise returns General Support to Finance Team Effectively project manage appropriate cross functional projects throughout LSTM Providing of support and input to the entire Finance Operations team, offering insight and expertise into issues or projects that arise Monthly management of balance sheet reconciliations, working with all parts of the Finance department to ensure reconciliations are completed and signed off promptly The successful candidate will bring: ACCA or ACA qualification (or equivalent) Previous experience as an accountant, with up-to-date knowledge of relevant financial and accounting procedures Experience of using accounting software is essential, and any experience of system improvements would be beneficial Proven experience of financial management and reporting within a regulated environment Experience of capital management Proactive approach to problem-solving by identifying issues and finding appropriate solutions Strong analytical skills, with meticulous attention to detail Ability to communicate financial matters to non-financial staff at all levels Experience in treasury management, dealing with multiple currencies and/or tax management would also be highly advantageous, however, this is not essential.
