Position Overview
As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the technical aspects of assigned projects, from conception to completion. This includes planning, scheduling, forecasting, and managing all technical activities to ensure project accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable codes and standards. Your role will involve close collaboration with clients, project managers, and other stakeholders to interpret requirements and provide effective solutions.
Essential Job Functions
1. Project Planning and Coordination: Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor assigned engineering projects, ensuring alignment with project objectives and timelines.
2. Solution Design & Implementation: Architect, implement, and manage IT environments leveraging VMware, Azure, Citrix, Hyper-V, and Zerto.
3. Network & Security Configuration: Design and deploy Fortinet and WatchGuard firewalls, configure firewall rules, and optimize security settings.
4. VPN & Remote Access: Set up and manage VPN tunnels, site-to-site VPNs, and remote access solutions to ensure secure connectivity for clients.
5. Switch Configuration & Design: Configure and design Cisco and Aruba network switches to support robust and scalable network infrastructures.
6. RMM & Monitoring Tools: Deploy, manage, and maintain RMM tools such as ConnectWise, N-Central, and Automate for proactive system monitoring and maintenance.
7. Backup & Disaster Recovery: Implement and manage backup solutions including VEEAM, Acronis, and SkyKick to ensure business continuity.
8. Technical Oversight: Oversee all technical aspects of projects, including design, quality planning, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and final buy-off phases.
9. Client Interaction: Interact daily with clients to interpret their needs and requirements, representing them in the field and ensuring their expectations are met.
10. Quality Assurance: Monitor compliance with applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications to ensure project quality and security.
11. Resource Management: Plan project requirements and resources, including sourcing subcontractors and managing project budgets to ensure cost-effectiveness.
12. Risk Management: Anticipate potential project risks, identifying and establishing corrective actions to mitigate them effectively.
13. Documentation: Create and maintain detailed project documentation, including design specifications, configurations, and post-implementation reports.
14. Collaboration: Cooperate and communicate effectively with project managers and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support.
15. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to provide clients with innovative solutions and improve project methodologies.
Qualifications and Skills
1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
2. Proven experience working as a Project Engineer or in a similar role within the IT industry.
3. Strong expertise in VMware, Azure, Citrix, Hyper-V, and Zerto.
4. Experience with network security solutions including Fortinet and WatchGuard firewalls.
5. Expertise in setting up and managing VPN tunnels, site-to-site VPNs, and secure remote access solutions.
6. Proficiency in configuring and designing Cisco and Aruba network switches.
7. Experience working with RMM tools such as ConnectWise, N-Central, and Automate.
8. Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery platforms such as VEEAM, Acronis, and SkyKick.
9. Knowledge of Windows Server environments, Active Directory, and Office 365.
10. Understanding of networking fundamentals, firewalls, and security best practices.
11. Experience in designing and implementing IT solutions for enterprise environments.
12. Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving complex IT infrastructure issues.
13. Excellent documentation skills and familiarity with project management methodologies.
14. Strong communication and client-facing skills with the ability to translate technical solutions into business value.
15. Relevant certifications such as VMware VCP, Microsoft Azure Certifications, Citrix CCA, Fortinet NSE, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, or similar are a plus.
Working Hours: Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm
Location: Orpington Office with occasional site visits
