Job Description
About Diamond Light Source
We are the UK's national synchrotron science facility, accelerating electrons to near light-speed to generate brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays for academic and industry research and development.
B24 Beamline
B24 is a soft X-ray tomography correlative cryo-microscopy beamline operating at Diamond Light Source. It provides 3D imaging of whole cells up to a resolution of ~25 nm using full field cryo X-ray tomography.
The X-ray microscope is complemented by super resolution microscopy, enabling a unique correlative cryo-imaging workflow for users of the beamline.
Our Group
We are part of the Biological CryoImaging science group at Diamond, which also includes eBIC, the UK's national cryo-electron microscopy centre.
Together with other imaging instruments at Diamond, we provide a platform for using electrons, X-rays, and visible light to image biological samples from proteins to whole cells and tissues.
Responsibilities
As a Beamline Scientist, you will:
· Provide operational support for the B24 beamline, ensuring its safe operation and interacting closely with users.
· Develop an internationally competitive research programme that exploits the bioimaging capabilities at the beamline and Diamond more broadly.
· Act as a single point of contact (Local Contact) for user experiments, providing specialist technical/scientific advice and collaborative support.
About You
We seek an enthusiastic scientist with a strong background in microscopy and imaging of biological samples. Experience with X-ray imaging and sample preparation for cryotemperatures is desirable but not essential.
You will have access to state-of-the-art laboratories for structural and cellular biology embedded at the beamline and within the Research Complex at Harwell.
Benefits
Diamond offers an exceptional benefits package, including 26 days annual leave, public holidays, flexible working hours, and a defined benefit pension scheme.
