Fetal Medicine Specialist Midwife - Peterborough/Huntingdon
The role of the Fetal Medicine Specialist Midwife is to co-ordinate the continuity of care and support of women (their partners and families) during screening for/diagnosis of fetal anomaly and/or high-risk pregnancy.
Main duties of the job
1. Ensure communication and information sharing systems support access to high quality consultation between professionals and referral from one level of care to another as appropriate.
2. Communicate information in a way that makes it relevant and understandable for women and their families.
3. Establish methods to record activity, monitor success of maternal and fetal medicine interventions and inform other health professionals and commissioners.
4. Present findings at local and wider maternity forums on trends and outcomes and potential service requirements for this group.
5. Liaise with local and regional fetal medicine consultants and other specialist services including genetics, cardiology, oral-facial, paediatricians and blood transfusion services.
6. Enable transfers between services (internal and external) to be facilitated by establishing clear referral protocols.
7. Provide first line and ongoing counselling for women/birthing people and their families diagnosis of fetal anomaly.
8. Potential opportunity to support services for women that are at risk of pre-term birth.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Registered Midwife
* Educated to degree level or equivalent
* Current professional portfolio demonstrating ongoing professional development and further education
* Registered mentor
* Leadership knowledge or study
* Genetic Counselling Qualification
Experience
* Minimum of 3 years midwifery experience
* Ability to demonstrate an expert working knowledge of safeguarding and midwifery in all areas of the maternity service
* Evidence of relevant clinical update, including midwifery mandatory skills and drills and other regulatory mandatory training
* Have worked in a multi-agency approach
* Use of computerised information systems
* Involvement with clinical audit and research
* Experience/education in specialist subject
* Demonstrable achievements in developing staff, changing clinical practice and pathways of care, organisational change, quality improvement, leadership and teaching
Knowledge
* Knowledge of NMC rules and standards
* Knowledge of current research / reports / guidelines relating to maternity care and their implication
* Aware of current research / reports / guidelines relating to safeguarding
* In depth knowledge relating to management of suspected anomalies detected by the Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme, high risk results and maternal medicine including the impact on fetal well-being
* Demonstrate awareness of clinical governance
* Ability to demonstrate understanding of professional accountability and clinical governance
* Involvement in participating in the production of evidence based guidelines / policies and audit

* Able to carry out the full range of midwifery skills in accordance with job description
* Effective organisational, time management and prioritisation skills
* Well-developed interpersonal skills
* Excellent verbal and professional standard written, presentation and communication skills
* Computer literate, including analysis of data

* Pan site working required with flexibility in relation to hours to support service need
* Satisfactory enhanced DBS check against vulnerable groups barred lists
