Job Description Mechanical Forman, a fantastic opportunity awaits you with a prominent end-to-end solutions provider operating in the water sector. As part of their ongoing investment in the UK-based delivery team, my partner is seeking a Mechanical Forman with strong leadership skills. This role offers stability as it is a full-time, permanent position located in Gloucester, covering the Midlands and the South. What We're Looking For in a Mechanical Forman: Possess an engineering/science qualification, preferably at the HND/HNC/C&G level or equivalent. Accumulate a minimum of two years of experience in a similar role within the utilities sector or M&E engineering. Showcase expertise in planning, supervising, and executing steelwork assembly, welding, and on-site mechanical tasks. Provide evidence of training and qualifications in coded welding, steel fixing, or related areas. Experience in structural steelwork and steel product installation. Demonstrate strong communication skills for effective interaction with clients and colleagues. Prior experience in the UK water industry Be open to regular regional and national travel, including overnight stays, and occasional trips to the Group headquarters in Ireland as needed. Electrical awareness and training would be advantageous. Mechanical Forman Key Responsibilities: Plan, supervise, and assist in on-site mechanical installations for scraper bridges and fabricated products in water treatment plants. Ensure that daily activities adhere to Health & Safety standards, policies, and statutory regulations. Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of systems in compliance with British, ISO, and client standards. Provide support to Fitters and operatives in day-to-day site activities, including steelwork and pipework tasks. Collaborate closely with the project manager/project engineer throughout the project. Conduct onsite personnel, subcontractor, and visitor inductions. Communicate method statements, risk assessments, and procedures to onsite employees and subcontractors. Facilitate toolbox talks and maintain training certifications and records for personnel, subcontractors, and equipment. Ensure timely repair of equipment defects and their clear identification for removal from use. Enforce the use of proper PPE by all employees and subcontractors. Report accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, or near misses to the Project Manager/Engineer, or HSQE and HR departments in the project manager's absence. Maintain cleanliness and clear walkways, and implement emergency plans when necessary. Collaborate with internal/external safety officers and auditors during site inspections. Record and address non-conformances for individual projects, assisting the Project Manager in identifying corrective and preventive/improvement actions. Uphold industry best practices and workmanship for 'right first time' installations. Work cooperatively with colleagues, customers, suppliers, and contractors. Adhere to relevant Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Safe Systems of Work Plans for safe and responsible work at all times. Complete daily reports and ensure compliance with company HSQE policies for all activities. Identify and champion new ideas and business improvements.
