Project Overview
This Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project aims to enhance MAL’s manufacturing processes by improving energy efficiency and carbon content transparency. Key objectives include measuring energy consumption, primarily electricity usage, and providing component-level carbon footprint data. Advanced data collection and analysis will enable MAL to monitor usage, identify inefficiencies, and comply with the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), setting them apart in the market.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications: MSc in Production Engineering or Business & Computing; MSc or MBA in Business Sustainability / Operations Management with IT modules.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Experience in manufacturing and managing small/medium projects.
* Understanding of sustainable manufacturing (environmental/quality management systems, life-cycle analysis, performance measurement).
* Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of manufacturing strategy, business sustainability, or performance measurement.
* Understanding of business operations.
Main Responsibilities
* Understand and implement the EU’s CBAM.
* Evaluate data-capture technology and digitalise energy consumption.
* Visualise and analyse energy/carbon data.
* Support commercialisation and market positioning.
* Conduct life-cycle analysis and drive sustainable innovation.

Location & Travel
Based at MAL in West Bromwich, with access to Aston University facilities in Birmingham. Some travel to Aston University and key clients may be required.
