Job Overview A great opportunity for an experienced Acute Oncology nurse to step up in a senior role within the established AOS team in FHFT to provide cross site clinical and managerial leadership in the service. AOS review on average 650-700 patients per month cross site in the current 7-day nurse led service. AOS provide expert, specialist advise and support for solid tumour cancer patients who present to ED as an emergency. This service provides support to cancer patients with a new presentation of cancer or treatment related complications or cancer related complications. The post holder will provide advanced clinical practice skills to assess, examine patients and provide diagnosis, request investigations and support management plans whilst liaising with treating oncologists and FHFT acute medical teams. The post holder should have experience in supporting Teenage & Young Adults with cancer, and will line manage the current Band 7 TYA nurse to ensure a robust TYA service is maintained cross site. Main duties of the job The post holder will support the AOS/NSS Lead nurse in providing clinical and managerial leadership across both Frimley and Wexham hospital sites. Applicants should have advanced clinical assessment skills, non-medical prescribing and working towards MSc in cancer or ACP care in order to provide advanced cancer nursing skills in AOS and TYA service. The post holder will provide support and line manage AOS Band 7 and TYA CNS teams as well as Band 4 administrative teams. You will deputise alongside your incumbent Band 8a colleagues for this very busy AOS service and support AOS quality indicators for oncological emergencies. You will provide education and training for doctors, nurses, AHPs across the Frimley ICB including formal academic university accredited training programmes. You will be a leader and role model for AOS CNS team and ensure patients presenting to FHFT feel compassionately cared for and provide keyworker support for patients with primary brain cancer or Cancer of Unknown primary. You will provide leadership and support for TYA CNS and oversight of TYA service. Work within the four domains of Advancing Nursing Practise: Clinical Skills, Leadership, Education, evidence-based Research & service development Practice evidence- based nursing care to ensure high quality care Undertake advanced clinical assessments of acutely unwell oncology patients to enable prompt assessment, diagnosis and treatment according to agreed policies, protocols and guidelines. Order and interpret blood tests and initiate appropriate action as required. Order diagnostic tests and imaging as appropriate. Ensure all teenagers and young adults 16-24 year olds (TYA) with suspected diagnosis of cancer is referred to the Principle Treating centre (PTC) for diagnosis and agreement of treatment plan.
