Infrastructure Engineer
Department: Engineering
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: Bristol, UK
Reporting To: Dan Box
Description
We're building the next UK-headquartered engineering powerhouse.
There is a gulf between the needs of mission-focused organisations and the development and delivery of the critical technology they rely on. The consequences of this are felt acutely by underserved frontline operators, demanding a new breed of engineering enterprise to bridge this divide.
Rowden exists to meet this need. We design and build systems, infrastructure, and applications to deliver mission advantage to those working to protect the security of the UK and its allies. Rowden is setting a new standard in government technology provision: hyper-efficient engineering, better customer relationships, and rapid assimilation of commercial technology.
We're growing our team and looking for talented Infrastructure Engineers to work on exciting projects that deliver real value to our key customers.
You'll join a diverse team of engineers at Rowden. You'll contribute to a hands-on engineering culture, sharing knowledge and lessons with the wider engineering team, and learn new things yourself along the way.
Salary rangesFor transparency and to help candidates make informed decisions, these are the salary ranges for the different levels we are hiring across infrastructure engineering (DOE):
* Grad/junior level: GBP 35,000 - GBP 40,000
* Mid level: GBP 40,000 - GBP 55,000
* Senior: GBP 55,000 - GBP 75,000
Key areas of responsibility
As an Infrastructure Engineer at Rowden, you'll be empowered to exploit the latest technologies, cloud services and toolchains to deliver secure, reliable, best-in-class information systems and machine learning services in the Defence and National Security sectors.
Your role will be varied - you might work building or enhancing current capabilities in both AWS and Azure, working with a geospatial service to provide real-time situational awareness across the globe or working on niche, bespoke environments that demand the highest level of security. Working with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team, you'll consider reliability, maintainability, performance and security, as well as playing a key role in diagnosing service issues and implementing enhancements to infrastructure and tooling.
In this role, you'll be responsible for:
* Build and manage cloud platforms to support ongoing projects.
* Create reliable systems and services through automation and Infrastructure-as-Code.
* Partner with development teams to improve services through rigorous testing and release procedures.
* Provide expertise on networks, security and databases.
* Gather and analyse metrics from operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding.
* Design, build and improve CI pipelines and build tools for development teams.
* Contribute to the culture of the company and work in line with our values.
Key skills, experience and behaviours
We are looking for someone who is passionate about technology and actively invests in their technical skills and abilities. You will be constantly learning and developing in this role, but some key skills and experience you already have should include:
* Programming experience in a scripting and/or static language.
* Some cloud experience.
* Linux CLI experience.
* The ability to work autonomously and proactively, dealing with multiple issues, tasks and priorities concurrently.
* Hands-on and naturally inquisitive, with a broad interest in technology.
Tech you'll work with:
This is a list of the technology we work with, not a list of requirements. Experience in any is a bonus, but also consider this a list of the things you'll get to use:
* AWS, Azure, GCP cloud platforms
* Android configuration.
* Docker, Kubernetes, and other orchestration tools.
* Terraform and other HashiCorp products.
* Python, Golang, PHP.
* TLS and Certificate Infrastructure.
* TCP / IP Networks.
* PostgreSQL.
* Digital mapping and imagery.
* Physical server builds and networks.
