The Family Surgery is looking to recruit a medical receptionist to our friendly surgery team, part time. Applicants must have strong computer skills and be able to demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills. The ability to work under pressure, resolve conflict and self-motivation are key skills for a job in General Practice.
Previous experience is desirable but not essential as full training will be given. Starting salary ranges from - £11.44 to £11.75.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of the role is to:
1. Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone at all times.
2. Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
3. Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team.
4. Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies.

Our team comprises of 2 GP Partners, 3 salaried GPs, Practice Nurse and other healthcare practitioners who are all supported by our receptionists and administration team. We deliver additional services at the surgery such as medical cover for Discharge to Assess beds, and vasectomy services.
The surgery is located near to Birkdale Village with easy access to main bus routes and commuting links to Liverpool, Manchester and Preston by rail.
Job responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities:
1. Opening up/locking-up of practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with Practice protocols.
2. Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system.
3. Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional.
4. Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail.
5. Taking messages and passing on information.
6. Filing and retrieving paperwork.
7. Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines.
8. Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures.
9. Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers.
10. Clearing and re-stock consulting rooms as required.
11. Providing clerical assistance to practice staff as required from time to time, including word/data processing, filing, photocopying and scanning.
12. Ordering, re-ordering and monitoring of stationery and other supplies.
13. Dealing with clinical waste.
14. Provision of refreshments for staff and visitors as required; keeping the kitchen area clean and tidy.
15. Keeping the reception area, notice-boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* A good standard of general education is essential with English and Maths GCSE grade C or above being desirable.
Experience
* Basic computer use/office experience is essential.
* Customer service experience is essential.
* Experience in working in a GP reception role.
* Previous EMIS use (clinical system) is desirable.
