The Apprentice Project Engineer will work collaboratively with our diverse engineering team to execute innovative fire suppression projects. This role is designed for individuals eager to contribute to impactful solutions and learn from a dedicated group of experts.
As an apprentice, you’ll immerse yourself in a hands-on learning environment, acquiring new skills while fostering connections with our knowledgeable staff.
What You’ll Do at Work
* Learn essential project management skills in the dynamic Fire Suppression industry.
* Develop expertise in commissioning cutting-edge Fire Detection and Suppression systems on large-scale projects globally.
* Experience a challenging and rewarding role that serves as a launching pad for a lifelong career in a highly innovative and technical business environment.
* Participate in college courses on a block release basis, which may involve staying away from home (travel, accommodation, and meals will be covered by the company).
* Engage with detailed project specifications and design data, collaborating with clients, end-users, sub-contractors, and internal departments on technical matters.
* Demonstrate and apply knowledge of applicable fire suppression codes and standards, such as National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and British Standards (BS).
* Assist with Front End Engineering Design (FEED) studies and conduct onsite surveys to determine work scopes.
* Ensure design work aligns with agreed project milestones and targeted margins while minimizing costs.
Where You’ll Work
This role is based at our Manchester office. However, national travel will be required for different projects and site visits. It is essential that you are happy to travel, work away, and occasionally stay overnight.

Your Training Plan
Enrol in a level 3 Project Controls Technician qualification delivered by Train'd Up alongside fellow Johnson Controls apprentices. Engage in day release training and receive on-the-job guidance from experienced mentors and engineers.
Requirements / Essential Qualifications
* GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 5) essential
* GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 5) essential
* Other Driving Licence (Grade Full) essential

Other Requirements
This thrilling opportunity is a mixture of office-based and field-based, meaning that you will work alongside our highly skilled engineers, traveling between our clients’ sites on some days.

After This Apprenticeship
Upon completion of this apprenticeship there are many internal opportunities within the company. Many of our previous apprentices have become lead engineers and take control of their own team and projects.
What We’re Offering
Salary - £14,920. Competitive basic salary with fantastic additional earning potential and a Company Pension - Enjoy 25 days holiday plus bank holidays and ongoing training.
What’s Next?
Suitable candidates will be contacted via email to provide their evidence of required certifications. Once we receive the evidence of certification you will have a screening call with a recruiter to discuss the position. Afterward, you will be invited to an assessment centre, where you will participate in a practical assessment, meet the team, and have an interview.
Candidates will receive a response regarding the outcome of their application. If successful, they can expect to begin the apprenticeship with Johnson Controls in the late summer of 2025.
