This is a regional role covering RM sites in South Mids, Midlands and the North East.
Royal Mail is currently looking to add an Area Engineering Maintenance Manager to its team. You will be a key member of the engineering senior leadership team, accountable for the successful creation and deployment of the strategic performance improvement plans for maintenance. This is a critical leadership role, in which you will be expected to drive sustained performance improvement of our assets through coaching utilizing 5F and continuous improvement practices.
About the role
You will work in collaboration with key stakeholders, managing 5 Technical Maintenance Managers who are each responsible for 3/4 RM sites acting as a technical business partner. You will have direct control over a budget of £6 million and indirect control of site budgets totaling around £500 million.
A key facet of this role is driving cultural change within the maintenance community, focusing on fostering an innovative climate amongst their teams, developing not only performance improvement of our assets but our people, ensuring people develop and grow within roles. The role is responsible for delivering compliance to Royal Mail's legislative and regulatory requirements that affect the maintenance and use of the automation equipment and to drive key performance metrics to achieve the operational goals.
You will also:
1. Create, own and drive strategic plans in the region to meet the maintenance strategy and standards which underpin business KPIs.
2. Develop influential and collaborative working relationships with senior operational teams and our unions, focused on driving sustained performance improvement.
3. Develop a culture of continuous improvement and innovation at all levels to drive the maintenance revolution, embed new ways of working and drive cost benefits within engineering and operation.
4. Own and manage non-staff budget and provide tactical support to the operational colleagues in managing the staff budget.
5. Drive asset reliability, quality & performance against strategic business and maintenance KPIs to ensure minimal disruption and costs to the operation.
6. Lead diverse and geographically spread teams to foster a climate of innovation, building on team capabilities to enhance business performance.
7. Lead a team of Plant Maintenance Managers to deliver performance improvement of our assets, owning people development plans across the region driving a learning culture.
8. Work collaboratively with the engineering strands to effectively integrate new automation across the plants in line with the early equipment management principles.
About you
You will be responsible for the line management for 4 Technical Maintenance Managers and matrix management of 220+ Maintenance Technicians and circa 30 apprentices, so experience of managing dispersed technical teams in a highly automated environment is essential for the role.
You also:
1. Have exceptional change management skills, able to create an environment striving for innovation and creativity, establishing the value of ideas and change initiatives that will drive continuous improvement across RM.
2. Can engage at all levels using personal presence and “storytelling” to articulate and translate vision into maintenance strategies, demonstrating clarity in thinking and using inspirational communication experience.
3. Are able to create a climate of succession, with demonstrable experience in building capable teams and succession plans to create a pipeline of talent that supports the overall strategic future focus.
4. Have expert knowledge of automated processes and asset lifecycle maintenance management standards.
5. Have expert knowledge of cost versus risk and change management theories to develop and deliver strategic change and business performance.
You must have:
1. A qualification in an Engineering, Technical or Scientific Discipline (Level 4/5, HNC/HND or above) or alternative professionally recognised achievement.
2. Qualified machinery directive compliance assessor (PUWER).
3. Qualified in Health & Safety Management (IOSH).
