Job Purpose:
The Build Support Analyst is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Data and Analytics (D&A) environments and application builds. The role supports the Build Manager in controlling the code in non-production test and development environments through initiatives with multiple development streams. The objective is to ensure that the environments are maintained to agreed levels and that the processes for building releases and controlling code are followed.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Responsible for adherence to the build management processes and toolset ensuring build activities are carried out in a consistent manner to defined standards to best support project delivery.
2. In conjunction with the Operational support organization, responsible for the deployment process into production, ensuring deployments are reversible, automated, and require minimal downtime to the live service.
3. Responsible for the documentation and maintenance of the D&A environments and usage strategy, ensuring appropriate environment usage is clear to the D&A development teams.
4. Manage environmental configuration, including communication to the wider team of current and future configurations, and the process by which environments are requested and delivered.
5. Responsible for continuous improvement of the build processes/tools, making recommendations for improvements to the Build Manager.
6. Monitor build failures and report on repeat failures and/or issues to facilitate continuous improvement or escalate back into the development stream leads.
Knowledge:
* Good understanding of virtualization technologies and techniques.
* Knowledge of Continuous Integration Techniques and automation tools.
* Understanding of test automation environmental requirements.
* Detailed understanding of Agile and Test Led Development methodologies.
* Strong understanding of code versioning and configuration management processes and tools, ideally with ITIL certification.
* Detailed understanding of software packaging and deployment approaches.
* Industry knowledge of trends in build management tooling.
* Good understanding of Cloud offerings for provisioning environments and build management services.
* Good understanding of backup and restore functionality across multiple technologies.
* Practical knowledge of at least one source code management system (ideally TFS or VSTS).
Skills:
* Technically competent in a build management tool (such as MS build).
* Proficient in command line utilities (i.e., sqlplus, sqlcmd).
* Strong PowerShell scripting skills.
* Process-oriented approach.
* Working knowledge of C#, VS test, TFS, SSIS, and SSDT.
* Ability to build strong relationships cross-functionally and drive service improvement outside the immediate team.
* Effective communication skills – the ability to communicate complex technical messages to business users.
* Structured delivery approach including use of formal governance methods towards controlling delivery and managing associated risks.
Experience:
* Hands-on experience in the management and delivery of Data Warehousing environments.
* Experience working in an organization with multiple sprint teams in an Agile methodology.
* Experience in an environment with a set release schedule requiring builds to be committed on set dates.
* Proven experience of task automation and continuous improvement.
* Experience working with data of a sensitive and/or personal nature.
* Experience with MS SQL Server, APS, Oracle, and TFS desirable.
