Resident Engagement Officer - The Role:
Cheltenham Borough Council is offering an exciting opportunity to join our Housing Services Community Team as a Resident Engagement Officer. This is a part-time position for 22 hours per week, and occasional evening work may be required.
In this role, you will collaborate with the Community Investment Manager to spearhead the development of a modern and flexible approach to tenant and leaseholder engagement.
Your efforts will ensure that our engagement strategies meet the high standards set by the Regulator of Social Housing.
Resident Engagement Officer – Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan and deliver a customer-focused, resident engagement service with tenants and leaseholders, feeding into the wider governance structure at Cheltenham Borough Council.
2. Manage the existing tenant panel and leaseholder panel, including arranging and chairing meetings, recruiting new members, arranging necessary training, and keeping clear records of meetings.
3. Embed a culture of tenant engagement across housing services teams, providing coaching, training and advice for colleagues on best practice.
4. Ensure compliance with the Social Housing Consumer Standards, specifically with reference to the tenant voice requirements captured in the Transparency, Influence and Accountability and other standards, following strategic direction from your line manager.
5. Expand and diversify the current tenant and leaseholder engagement offer to include policy reviews, scrutiny reviews, complaints support, and input into budgeting.
6. Ensure accountability by following up on recommendations made by engaged tenants and reporting back on progress.
7. Deliver tenant engagement events, draft annual reports and newsletters, and keep the website updated.
8. To comply with relevant legislation, GDPR, and safeguarding responsibilities.
Resident Engagement Officer – You:
1. A passion for tenant engagement and an understanding of how it drives service improvements.
2. Able to demonstrate positive outcomes when working with community groups.
3. Able to demonstrate a commitment to equality and diversity.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
5. IT skills to optimise digital engagement, communications and agile working.
6. Ability to work within a wider team, but often using your own initiative to steer the direction of your work.
7. Ability to produce clear agendas and minutes from meetings, as well as other administrative duties relating to the role.
8. Good level of IT skills - MS Office.
9. Communicates effectively at all levels (excellent verbal and written skills).
10. Is customer focused, responsive, and co-operative with customers.
