The King County Executive’s Office of Performance, Strategy, and Budget (PSB) is hiring interns to work with several different teams within the office as part of the 2025 PSB Summer Internship Program. Interns will gain a firsthand understanding of the workings of government, get an overview of how projects, policies, and legislation are created and implemented, understand why civic engagement matters, and build an appreciation for the importance of public service. Depending on the assignment, interns may interact with a wide variety of people including staff, elected officials, community members, or program participants. Interns will have the opportunity to be part of a high-performing team and take advantage of County training and learning opportunities.

CIT, Communications, and OCM Intern: The Office of Performance, Strategy and Budget seeks a creative and passionate Communications and Organizational Change Management (OCM) intern to join the office this summer. In this role, you will assist the Continuous Improvement Communications team in supporting change management for our continuous improvement maturity model and evaluating and improving our leadership communications strategy.
Job Duties:
* Learn and facilitate change management activities for the Best-Run Government Roadmap (BRG Roadmap) cycle.
* Engage and assist departments in their implementation of the BRG Roadmap assessment and action planning phases.
* Learn the fundamentals of our BRG Organizational Change Management (OCM) framework and support ongoing improvements.
* Evaluate and assess the current leader communication strategy to identify areas for improvement.
* Analyze research findings to identify trends and opportunities in current leader communication.
* Change Management analysis, planning and implementation.
* Design SharePoint pages in Upfront (News and resources for managers and supervisors).
* Project management.
* Write clear and compelling communications and features.
* Work as part of a team.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:
* Working knowledge of basic change management principles.
* Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
* Demonstrates attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
* Experience with Microsoft Office 365.
* Strong project management and organizational skills.
* Ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities.
* Education Level: Some undergraduate college course work completed.
* Demonstrated work ethic, ability to get things done, and independent time management skills.
* Ability to develop and maintain effective working relations with diverse peoples.
* Demonstrated customer service experience.
* Flexibility and the ability to adapt to new situations.
* Can remain neutral on issues where there are competing political agendas.
* Analytical and research skills and the ability to learn new technologies and processes.
* A commitment to supporting the objectives and goals of King County’s Equity and Social Justice Plan.
WHO MAY APPLY:
This position is open to undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled and continuing in the fall of 2025 in full-time status at an accredited university/college with coursework in the described areas. Proof of full-time enrollment status may be required.
WORK SCHEDULE:
The work schedule will be Monday-Friday. During the school term, the work week will consist of 10-20 hours at the discretion of your supervisor. During summer, the work week will consist of 40 hours. These are internships expected to last until mid- to late-August, although the position may begin earlier or end later depending on project and scheduling needs.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to travel throughout King County in a timely manner if required in the position.
