Key Areas of Responsibility To provide the highest levels of pastoral care, supporting children with special educational needs To support teaching and learning in the classroom to maximise participation of pupils with identified or suspected SEN to progress their learning and educational achievements. Working with small groups of pupils or on a 1-1 basis within lessons to enable students to access the curriculum Establishing good relationships with both staff and pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of, and responding appropriately to individual needs. Supporting pupils understanding within lessons, adapting and explaining where needed To work with pupils, understanding how to motivate and encourage them to achieve and develop their own skills, attributes and knowledge To support specific aims within the lesson as planned and directed by the class teacher Providing assistance for the provision of Exam Access Arrangements for pupils with SEND in both internal and external examinations Contributing to the management of pupil behaviour by encouraging positive behaviour, under the direction of the class teacher To make appropriate educational provision for children with SEND and those who may have EAL needs, with support from the Head of Learning Support. To carry out administrative duties related to the delivery of all aspects of outstanding teaching, including the use of technology to assist in lesson preparation, teaching and reporting as directed by the Head of Learning Support or teacher within a lesson. To be responsible for the organisation of each different group or individual session, ensuring resources, equipment available, and are appropriate to meet the needs of the children, as directed by the Head of Learning Support or teacher within a lesson. Desired Criteria EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS: Experience of working within a secondary school setting An understanding of the accountability and parental expectations placed on staff working in the independent sector Competent IT skills to support activities and IT based admin tasks Driving Licence including a D1 category Child Protection and Safeguarding Training (will be provided by the school) First Aid Training Essential Skills and Abilities The ability to relate well with children, their parents and colleagues and to build positive working relationships. Confidence in literacy and numeracy: experience of supporting, or particular confidence with Maths would be advantageous, and candidates should outline relevant strengths or experience here. The ability to work constructively as part of a team, both within the Learning Support department and with the wider academic staff A confident and effective communicator. An understanding of child development, learning processes and factors that affect how pupils learn. Ability to resolve problems effectively by being solution focused. Excellent levels of organisation and time management. The desire to be an ambassador for the school in everything they achieve.
