Job summary To provide a point of contact for the delivery and receipt of laboratory goods and patient samples/specimens for Pathology. To provide timely delivery of specimens, goods and consumables to each of the individual departments so as to assist the Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants, who provide a specialised diagnostic Pathology service contributing to the clinical care of patients. To provide a point of contact for patients and staff for the collection of laboratory specimens and consumable items. To maintain the order of the Pathology store and participate in stock management including stock control, stock audit and ordering as required. The individual will be expected to develop judgement and utilise learnt specialist skills to assist in the provision of a high quality and timely Pathology service. Full training will be provided for the laboratory computer system, stock ordering system and the Trust PAS computer system where appropriate. The post holder will also be instructed in the operation of any laboratory or stores equipment that they may be asked to operate according to current laboratory safety guidelines. Main duties of the job To supply wards, clinics and GP surgeries with consumable items. To maintain sufficient levels of consumable items within the Specimen Reception Area and Pathology store. To receive specimens from patients, GP's, wards and clinics To sort and distribute the specimens to the appropriate laboratories in a timely and efficient manner To receive deliveries as and when required, then move the goods to the relevant store area, seeking assistance as necessary for handling heavy or bulky goods observing good lifting practice at all times. To participate in computerised or paper stock control, ordering and e-mail stock notification schemes as required. To participate in the annual stock take and any ad-hoc audit processes To adhere at all times to the processes and procedures applied to the areas of activity To perform Clerical Duties, and meet and great patients as and when required.
