Main duties of the job This is a key management role with specific responsibility for managing the Cancer Unit Teams across sites. • The Cancer Performance Lead will work across Frimley Health in conjunction with the Cancer Lead, Deputy COO - Planned Care and Lead Cancer Nurse to develop and drive forward the Trusts cancer strategy, implement the NHS Cancer Strategy, the NICE Guidance for Cancer Services and prepare for the National Cancer Peer Review. • The Cancer Performance Lead will be an expert resource for the Trust and provide both a Trust-wide and Network-wide perspective when planning cancer strategy. The postholder will be an active member of the Cancer Unit Steering Groups, Cancer Board and other relevant Cancer Groups at Trust and Network level. • The postholder will be responsible for monitoring and delivering cancer performance across all tumour groups against national and local targets. The Performance Lead will be responsible for holding services to account for performance and ensuring the performance framework is being adhered to across modalities. This involves being fully conversant with the various trust and cancer information systems, and being able to extract and manipulate data. Job responsibilities • Responsible for the production of high level Cancer performance plan, outcomes and action report for Director of Performance, Cancer Board and Executive team. • Be accountable for the performance of cancer services, jointly with tumour group services, reporting to Director of Performance in ensuring patients receive timely and effective treatment for cancer. • Ensure that patients suspected of having, or diagnosed with, cancer are coordinated throughout their pathway (both at the Trust and at other NHS providers) and that relevant tests and treatment are delivered within the national targets. • Act as the Trust management representative in conjunction with the Lead Clinician and Head Nurse and contribute to, Network Tumor Groups and working groups, influencing decisions and ensuring that Network agreed clinical guidelines are agreed and implemented. • Where required, to attend ICS and regional meetings to discuss Cancer Services at Frimley Health Foundation Trust as delegated by the Director of Performance. • Engage and support MDTs and clinical teams to examine, redesign and implement change initiatives, ensuring that service improvement is an ongoing process within the MDT and that ownership of change proposals is secured with the MDT. Person Specification Experience of Clinical Engagement Essential • Demonstrable experience of working with clinicians around pathway design and performance Desirable • Experience working on Cancer pathways with clinicians Management Qualifications and Experience Essential • Demonstrable evidence to post-graduate level on management and/or equivalent management experience leading an operational team Desirable • Masters level qualification on management Specialist knowledge Essential • Experience of budget management and writing business case Desirable • Understanding of Service Improvement methodology or demonstrable evidence of improving services. Cancer Knowledge Essential • Detailed knowledge around Cancer performance and national access standards.
