We are seeking a Vicar to help us discover God’s vision for how we can live Christ’s story in this new season of our church life. We desire to grow in discipleship and deepen our unity so that we can reach those beyond our church walls.
Our new Vicar will enjoy a varied ministry and purposefully engage with our diverse community including civic engagements. They will have a heart for the gospel and sharing it with others – both enabling us to evangelise and modelling it in their life and ministry.
We don’t expect our Vicar to do everything and we wouldn’t want to appoint someone who feels that they must. We work well as a team, with committed wardens, lay and ordained colleagues and a parish administrator. We will pray for you, support you practically and enjoy sharing in ministry with you.
You will find us in the beautiful coastal town of Scarborough. We are praying for you, excited about our future and finding the person God is calling to lead us forward into the plans we know he has for us.
Main responsibilities:
1. To work with the PCC and congregations to set a vision for the parishes and to lead the church effectively and prayerfully with regard to its implementation.
2. To cherish diversity in worship embracing the breadth of worship within the church and making provision for the needs of all ages.
3. To lead the churches in evangelism and outreach.
4. To teach the bible with application, nurturing church members in their discipleship.
5. To develop pastoral care across the parish, having an understanding and appreciation of the diversity across our community.
6. To deepen the shared life of our congregations and expressions of worship, identifying how resources and gifts can be shared
7. To work with other denominations within the town and contribute actively to the life of the deanery and be committed to the civic responsibilities.
We are looking for a vicar who will:
* Help us to seek God’s vision and lead us into growth
* Enable and equip us to reach families and younger generations
* Value scripture and its teaching
* Actively engage with our diverse communities
* Deepen our discipleship, growing our faith and varied expressions of ministry
* Embrace the partnership working with the Rainbow Social Action Centre
The Diocese of York
The Diocese of York, led and guided by Archbishop Stephen Cottrell, takes in much of North and East Yorkshire. As the largest diocese in England, geographically, the area is very diverse, featuring a multitude of needs and opportunities. This includes the bustling urban centres of York, Hull and Middlesbrough, the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park, and the incomparable Yorkshire Coast; as well as areas of deprivation in some of our urban and smaller rural and coastal communities.
Our mission and ministry relies on thousands of people - lay and ordained, volunteer and paid. Our diocesan teams provide a wide range of support services to our mission and ministry, including lifelong learning for ministry, the care of church buildings, and safeguarding. Together, we are striving to be a people who are ‘Living Christ’s Story’. We want to be a simpler, bolder, humbler church which in its diversity reflects the communities it serves. We are bringing renewed focus and fresh energy to achieving our aims:
* Becoming more like Christ
* Reaching those we currently don't
* Growing in discipleship, influence and numbers
* Transforming our finances and structures
Our approach is aligned with a commitment to the best of our parochial inheritance and to the poorest communities, and to the financial realities we face.
Under current immigration rules, it is not generally possible for us to appoint clergy who are not already eligible to work in the UK.
Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure.
Closing date for applications: Midnight on Monday 12 August
Interviews: Wednesday 11 September.
