Synatel Instrumentation Ltd, part of the Donelec Group, is a world leading manufacturer of industrial electronics across a wide range of sectors, supplying to a global market.
Based in Norton Canes (Staffordshire), we currently have a vacancy for a Test Technician to increase the size and capability of our specialist Test function, as part of our busy Production Operation.
The role of the Test Technician involves assembly, testing and verification of all Products (sensors & controllers) processed through the Production Team by following the test procedures at an efficient and effective work rate to meet company standards.
You will be required to test, analyse and repair newly produced, failed and returned items and maintain records.
This role will be an on-site role, based at our Norton Canes manufacturing facility and there is currently no consideration for remote working.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
1. Product Testing and Assembly
o Fully test, fault find and assemble, where required, production failures to approved and industry standards, using a range of different test equipment, both manual and automated.
o Assemble a variety of products to approved and industry standards, using a range of different manufacturing techniques, including soldering and de-soldering.
o Identify production processes, including test equipment and test methods to improve product test time and quality.
o Product testing and maintenance as well as supporting other departments by identifying and raising non-conformities, whilst working closely with the Operations Manager.
o Maintain paperwork to support product records and yield and defects database accuracy and timeliness.
2. Work closely with the Production, Quality and Engineering teams to:
o Minimise production hours, manufacturing and quality challenges.
o When required, support the Service/Returns department: analyse, fault find to component level, troubleshoot and repair customer returns, aided by the circuit diagrams.
o Assist with the development of standard work instructions (test procedures and other documents) to ensure high quality workmanship with the Test and Production departments.
o Provide feedback in order to modify/improve the product testing.
o Use and assist with the ongoing development of production test rigs.
o Participate in team based continuous improvement activities.
3. Co-ordination of all testing activities during every stage of the test process as well as liaison with senior managers.
o Log and maintain all the test data and results.
o Run multiple tasks/projects in parallel, switching to the highest priority task as and when required.
o Analyse and review all necessary documentation (test procedures, forms etc) and assist with audits on a regular basis.
o Responsible for the general upkeep, repair and maintenance of the test equipment and test rigs as well as the company’s equipment calibration.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience required:
Essential
* Experience of Electronics Manufacturing.
* Qualification or Experience in a subject relevant to the role.
* Knowledge of basic testing techniques.
* Quality focused and experienced working in a team environment.
* The ability to analyse information both creatively and practically to diagnose problems and find optimum solutions.
* Ability to read assembly and schematic drawings.
* Precision soldering (conventional through-hole and SMT components).
* Numerical reasoning skills.
* The ability to make effective decisions under pressure and work to deadlines.
* The ability to communicate clearly with staff at all levels.
Desirable
* High level of numerical and diagrammatic reasoning ability.
* Knowledge of basic encapsulation techniques.
* HNC in electrical / electronic engineering.
* At least 2 years testing and repair experience.
* Knowledge of repairing to electronic component level.
