SEN Teaching Assistant – must have experience with SEN
A Primary School in Burnley is seeking an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who is passionate about promoting inclusion within mainstream schools. This Teaching Assistant will be working in an SEN classroom, to ensure all children can access their learning and will be expected to promote independence.
To be successful in this role, you must:
1. Have experience supporting SEN children, preferably in a Nursery or Primary School setting.
2. Have experience of play-based learning and an understanding of continuous provision.
Start date: 1st September 2025 – with some transition days/weeks in the Summer term
Location: Primary School in Burnley
Year Group: KS1 – KS2
Responsibilities:
1. Build strong relationships with children and their families, through a nurturing approach.
2. Be approachable and have regular contact with the child’s family.
3. Provide a safe and inclusive environment so that the pupil can achieve their full potential.
4. Be confident in planning and adapting the continuous provision to promote a play-based learning approach.
5. Work collaboratively with the Class Teacher and other professionals such as SENCO, educational psychologists, and speech and language therapists, and be able to implement suggested strategies.
6. Recognise and identify gaps in children’s learning and communicate this with the class teacher so that interventions can be planned and delivered.
7. Have a calm and consistent approach so that the pupil can have a clear school routine.
8. Have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and a passion for education.
9. Promote the inclusive school ethos each day.
Requirements:
1. Previous experience working with children who have additional needs.
2. Level 2 or above Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
3. An enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn.
4. The highest commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the safety of pupils.
5. Enhanced DBS certificate.
6. Experience supporting children with Social, Emotional, Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
