Locum Paediatric Consultant
Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group, is looking for a full-time Locum Paediatric Consultant on a 12-month fixed-term contract, who is a General Paediatrician capable of covering both acute Paediatrics and neonates. The post also includes 1PA for safeguarding work as the deputy to the named doctor for safeguarding. The Paediatric department is based at Whipps Cross Hospital and is part of the Children's Clinical Board and Network within Barts Health. You will be joining a department that currently has 14 Consultant Acute Physicians.
Main duties of the job
The Paediatric unit works with the Children's Home Care Nursing Team, based at Wood Street Child Development Centre. The team supports children of all ages at home who have medical needs, e.g., gastrostomy, diabetes, oxygen dependency, daily IV antibiotics, home ventilation, and end-of-life care. We also collaborate with the Hospital at Home service, allowing early discharge from the hospital as care continues at home with up to 3 nursing visits per day.
This is a fixed-term (12 months) post to join the Consultant workforce here at Whipps Cross. We are looking for candidates who are general Paediatricians who can cover both acute Paediatrics and neonates. Responsibilities will include covering the Paediatric Assessment Unit on a rota basis. Current clinical work is divided into weeks attending the acute service and non-attending weeks. Waltham Forest has a child population (0-16) of approximately 60,000, but children from surrounding boroughs are also seen at Whipps Cross Hospital. The hospital serves Waltham Forest, Redbridge, and parts of Epping Forest.

Qualifications
* Full GMC registration
* MRCPCH or equivalent
* MB BS or equivalent
* MD
* MSc
General Professional Training
* Entry on the Specialist Register in paediatrics, or at the time of interview, the applicant can produce evidence that they are within 6 months of CCT date and are expected to achieve CCT
* APLS and NLS provider
* APLS instructor
* NLS instructor
Specialist Experience
* 6 months experience in a paediatric assessment unit
* 6 months in a level 3 unit during Registrar training
Level of responsibility
* Competent paediatrician, confident to work without direct supervision
Leadership and Management Skills
* To demonstrate leadership skills and behaviours.
* Ability to prioritise tasks.
* To lead and motivate junior staff.
* Management and leadership development course or qualification.
Teaching skills
* Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
