Job summary
Thisis a fixed term 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Pathologist in CellularPathology to cover a vacant post predominantly in Head & Neck Pathology.This post will be available immediately for a period of 6months. The post will provide a service which includes biopsy reporting, cytologyreporting, and surgical specimen cut up and reporting. Thepost will be based at the Department of Cellular Pathology, Level 5 Bexley Wingand Chancellor Wing, St James's Hospital, Leeds. Applicantsshould have established skills in Cellular Pathology reporting and cutup. Excellent communication and team working skills are also essential. Thesuccessful applicant should hold accreditation with the RCPath and should beregistered or within six months of being registered with the GMC. Considerationwill be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.
Main duties of the job
Todeliver care to patients with pathology service provision including: Biopsyand Cytology reporting, Specimencut up, Excision(benign and oncology) reporting. Towork alongside trainees and Consultants in other relevant site specialist teamswithin the Bexley wing and Chancellors wing at SJUH. Noon-call or out of hours work is expected. Tocontribute to teaching, audit, research, and new developments within the Trust as required.

To contribute to teaching, research,and new developments within the Trust as required. Thepost holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the currentclinical research programs on going in the department.
The job plan review will take placeannually, normally with the Clinical Director or Lead Clinician for Pathology/CellularPathology. The annual job plan reviewmay result in a revised job plan. Theremay be an interim review of the job plan where duties, responsibilities,accountability arrangements or objectives have changed or need to change significantlywithin the area.
Proposed Job Plan
The post consists of 10PAs with of direct clinical care (DCC) and of supporting professional activity(SPA).This job plan will fit together with colleaguesjob-plans with a rota of work allocation to ensure robust cover.

Experience
Essential
1. Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Cellular Pathology
2. Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
3. Should have completed a recognised training programme in Cellular Pathology
4. Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
5. Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
6. Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
Desirable
7. Specialist experience in Head & Neck Pathology
8. Specialist training in Head & Neck Pathology
9. Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
10. Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
11. Attendance at recognised management course.
Qualifications
Essential
12. MB BS (or equivalent)
13. FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
Desirable
14. Higher degree MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty.
Language Skills
Essential
15. All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following:
16. passing a Secure English Language Test (SELT) from an approved provider
17. having a GCSE, A level, Scottish National Qualification level 4 or 5, Scottish Higher or Advanced Higher in English, gained through study at a UK school that you began when you were under 18
18. having a degree level academic qualification that was taught in English. If you studied abroad, you will need to apply through Ecctis (formerly UK NARIC) for confirmation that your qualification is equivalent to a UK bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD
19. You do not need to prove your knowledge of English if you have already passed an English Language assessment that is accepted by the relevant regulated professional body.
