Finborough School is seeking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher (Academic/Teaching & Learning) who will lead all aspects of our academic programme and quality of teaching and learning across the whole school.
They will be at the centre of ensuring that pupils truly achieve their full academic potential through an innovative curriculum and a wealth of experiences and opportunities for our students that align with the school’s positive and character centred culture. Similarly, the Deputy Head will lead, inspire and support the teaching staff promoting a culture of aspiration, with clear forms of assessment and targets for teachers and students. The emphasis will be on using their leadership skills and educational expertise to ensure Finborough becomes a centre for pedagogical excellence and best practise.

To play a key role in creating and sharing a vision for the academic development of the school and to contribute to the development and delivery of the School Development Plan
To keep policies under review to ensure that they meet the changing needs of the school and respond to developments in educational policy nationally and changes in the ISI regulatory framework Teaching and Learning Promote excellence and innovation in teaching and learning
To ensure an unrelenting focus on the development of great ‘Learnability’ (learning behaviours) supporting Excellent acquisition of subject specific skills, knowledge and understanding
Develop a stimulating and imaginative academic curriculum, which inculcates intellectual curiosity and love of learning, providing challenge and opportunity

To engage regularly with parents to forge outstanding partnerships based on mutual respect and common purpose
Ensure excellent communications with parents including regular academic updates
Plan and organise an effective programme of reports and parent teacher consultations to ensure the best possible partnership for learning
Leadership and Management of Others
To ensure we have systemised and organisationally effective academic process across the school
To line manage the Heads of School (Pre-Prep, Prep, Senior and Sixth Form)Inspiring teaching staff so they are relentlessly motivated to make the most effective use of their skills, challenging under performance where appropriate and promoting best practice in continuing professional learning / development
Monitoring, Evaluation and Assessment
In consultation with the Headteacher, manage the process of systematic and sustained quality assurance ensuring that rigorous monitoring and evaluation processes are in place
Take responsibility for the analysis of academic performance data and promote, monitor and evaluate its effective use in maximising student progress and achievement
Training and Development of Self and Others
Develop and maintain a culture of high expectations for self and others
As a lead professional, regularly review own practice, set personal targets and take responsibility for own continuous professional development and encourage all staff to do likewise
Identify whole school and departmental training needs and, in collaboration with other members of the SLT, maintain a high quality programme of academic INSET, presenting and delivering INSET personally where appropriate
Participate in the school’s new staff induction programme
Whole School Leadership
To lead Teaching and Learning across all stages of the school.
To work with the Headmaster and Business Manager as part of the Executive Team
To contribute fully as part of the Senior Leadership Team
