An exciting opportunity has arisen, we are currently recruiting for a Personal Assistant, to provide help and support to a child with a severe visual impairment and communication difficulties. The client is aged 10 years. She is home schooled on a Monday. The work will involve supporting the client with home school activities such as music therapy, community access and implementing therapy recommendations. Support is provided in the client’s home and in the community. The role will also involve supporting the client on 2 evenings a week after school.
Please note that due to the intimate nature of care carried out in this role, it is restricted to female applicants only; Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
Our client enjoys swimming therefore you must be confident in the water and be prepared to get wet. You will require your own vehicle which to drive the client. A pet dog also lives in the family home.
Skills and Duties will include:
• Following the health and wellbeing plan as documented for the client.
• Encouraging the client’s independence as far as possible.
• Working as part of a team and communicating appropriately with fellow team members.
• Participation in procedures and approaches as specified for the client.
• Ensuring that opportunity is given to participate in activities as identified by client, family, health, medical and social care team, while achieving a balance between work and rest for the client.
• Delivering programmes of educational, social, and therapeutic development if required as directed by the relevant professionals.
• Awareness of any significant changes in the client’s health, functioning or behaviour, and informing the case manager and team leader as appropriate.
• Awareness of the client’s vulnerability and taking all reasonable precautions to protect it.
• To provide the opportunity for the client to follow therapeutic guidelines if in place.
• To take the client out to activities.
Qualifications and Experience Required
• As a minimum, applicants will be expected to have some experience of caring for people with physical, behavioural, neurodevelopmental, or learning disabilities.
• NVQ level 2 in health and social care is desirable. Further specialist training in the sector is also desirable.
• First Aid training will be required and applicants with a recent first aid qualification are desirable.
• The ability to use IT systems, such as email, internet, virtual meeting platforms and electronic records is essential.
• A full driving license is essential, as the support worker will be required to drive the client. Due to the requirement to drive the client to and from activities, applicants must be over the age of 21 years for insurance purposes.
Training, supervision, and support will be provided as required.
This position requires a fully enhanced disclosure request from the DBS.
You will also be required to register with the DBS Update Service.
You will be employed directly by the client, however, SSCM oversees all aspects of the client’s care package on her behalf.
Shifts:
Mondays 8am – 4pm: 8 hours
Two weekday evenings per week: 4 hours per shift:
Further hours available in school holidays
Rates of Pay:
£16.00 per hour weekdays
£18.00 per hour for any weekend support.
