Postdoctoral Research Associate or Postdoctoral Research Fellow

This full-time post is available immediately on a fixed-term basis until 31st March 2020 in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences.

The post
This position will participate in process-based investigations of the roles of El Nino and other teleconnections in affecting East Asian climate. This Newton Fund funded post is available from 1st September 2018. The successful applicant will be required to work as part of a wider team to investigate the role of model biases and drifts in seasonal-decadal forecasts systems in determining their ability to represent ENSO and ENSO teleconnections to East Asia.
The post will include assessment of the behaviour of two seasonal and two seasonal-decadal prediction systems; the latest Met Office GLOSEA5 and Beijing Climate Centre BCC-CPS seasonal systems, and the Met Office DePreSys and IAP s2d systems.
About you
The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives and make presentations at conferences and other events. Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to manipulate complex climate model datasets, assess physical processes and prepare papers for publication in high-quality journals.
