Provide optimum quality of care to patients, offering support to the midwifery team. Undertake routine post-operative care including all aspects of nursing care. Immediate basic care of the newborn to include feeding support. Supporting the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) including the increasing complexities of patients. No midwifery specific tasks to be undertaken. Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to women and their families and the MDT including situations where difficulties in comprehension occur A competent practitioner who is able to provide teaching, assessing and supervising junior staff including student midwives and maternity support workers Responsible for undertaking post-operative nursing tasks and care for post-surgical mothers and babies but not including midwifery specific tasks Demonstrate technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient care management including; patient observations; equipment management, medication administration, wound care and administration of agreed invasive tests/procedures Utilise IT systems to document accurate and timely patient care Participate in Obstetric emergencies within scope of practice, working alongside the MDT and referring to a senior Midwife where appropriate Providing support to women and their families during difficult situations within the clinical area, e.g. supportive imparting bad news or following an unexpected event (excluding midwifery specific events) Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards For further details please see the attached job description.
