The Client
Our client is an independent Building Services engineering practice, specialising in residential, commercial and industrial sectors. They focus on delivering quality and service, providing a design and advisory service to both private and public sectors and have grown to deliver a wide range of high-quality engineering services.
Our client’s strength is in surveying, design, mechanical & electrical planning. Designs include ventilation and heating systems which use waste heat from industrial units. They strive to overcome their clients’ problems with buildings or processes, offering advice and solutions to eliminate or reduce issues rather than designing complex solutions to deal with the effects of the problem. They currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer based out of their headquarters in Sheffield but working in a hybrid role.
The Role
As a Principal/Associate Electrical Design Engineer, you will deliver a range of projects from small sites through to multi-million pound schemes, across a variety of sectors, including healthcare, residential, education, and commercial.
While representing the business, you will also be responsible for procuring work, managing project delivery, and liaising closely with clients and contractors. You will be responsible for the performance and development of your team, providing guidance, training, motivation, and directional guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Has sole responsibility for significant and complex activities or projects.
2. Provides technical expertise and support across the business.
3. Undertakes and enforces QA procedures and project design reviews.
4. Responsible for predicting and planning future resources, which may include setting up new projects.
5. Responsible for meeting agreed deadlines.
6. Responsible for monitoring budgets and controlling expenditure to meet financial targets.
7. Represents the company at internal and external meetings.
8. Contributes to the development and/or implementation of plans for the longer-term benefit of the business.
9. Authors official documents e.g., letters and reports (for internal or external use).
10. Executes responsibilities as outlined by the senior management team.
11. Procures work (Negotiating agreements with customers and/or suppliers).
12. Responsible for identifying, controlling, and monitoring variations (Negotiating and defining additional scope, fee, timescales as necessary).
13. Setting and meeting agreed budgets.
14. Assisting with recruitment, appraisal, performance, development, morale, and motivation of specified staff.
15. Responsible for the achievement of financial targets in specified areas; contributes to the setting of budgets.
16. Responsible for negotiating significant contracts/agreements with customers and/or suppliers.
Key Skills Required
1. Minimum of 10 years’ experience in engineering design.
2. Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in Electrical Engineering or related field.
3. Member of a professional institution.
4. Chartered Engineering status.
5. Proven experience in electrical design engineering, with a strong track record of successful project delivery.
6. In-depth knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
7. Proficient in relevant software and tools for electrical design and project management.
8. Leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage teams and collaborate with clients and stakeholders.
9. Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills.
10. Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
11. A friendly, ambitious, and confident individual with a flexible and resilient approach.
